Prensilia is an innovative company specialising in robotic and prosthetic hands that combine advanced mechatronics, miniaturised actuators, and sensor technology to mimic human dexterity. Their products are designed for humanoid robotics, and industrial automation, with a focus on precision and functionality. Established in 2009 as a spin-off from the BioRobotics Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, the company leverages decades of academic research to develop innovative solutions for prosthetics, collaborative robotics, and human-machine interaction.
Prensilia designs, customises, and manufactures advanced anthropomorphic underactuated robotic hands equipped with embedded actuation, sensory, and control systems. These hands can be used in research as advanced prosthetic hands, end effectors for humanoid robots, or in any field where an artificial hand that mimics natural behaviour is essential.
Prensilia’s flagship products, Mia Hand and IH2 Azzurra, embody two distinct approaches to robotic manipulation.

IH2 Azzurra is a highly articulated, self-contained robotic hand featuring 11 degrees of freedom, making it the ideal platform for research departments exploring dexterous manipulation and advanced control strategies.
Mia Hand, by contrast, is designed for real-world applications. Already certified as a collaborative gripper, it prioritises robustness, high grasp force and speed, offering a versatile and effective solution for industrial and humanoid applications. Mia Hand overcomes the limitations of tendon-driven systems through a direct-drive architecture, enabling outstanding durability and repeatability. Instead of replicating every possible gesture, it focuses on effectively delivering the essential grasp types, striking a precise balance between functionality, ease of control and performance.
Collaborating with research institutions and industrial partners from all over the world, Prensilia continues to advance the frontiers of robotic manipulation and prosthetic technology, also offering tailored solutions upon request.
