At Milano Design Week 2026, Generative Bionics announced a strategic partnership with Italdesign, a global leader in industrial design and product engineering, to accelerate the path toward large-scale production of its humanoid robot platform. The exclusive partnership has been formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), strengthening the relationship already initiated on GENE.01, which was presented at CES in Las Vegas.
The collaboration is structured as a comprehensive program that takes the project through the full industrialisation process of the exterior design of the GENE.01 humanoid platform. In the first phase, the work focuses on engineering the design language of GENE.01, from proportions to surface textures, translating it into technical specifications for pre-series production, to make every external component of the design precisely replicable by industrial automation. This phase enables the validation of production processes, testing of surface reliability under real-world conditions, and optimisation of technical specifications ahead of the subsequent ramp-up.
In parallel, the program integrates advanced design-for-manufacturing principles, orienting every exterior design decision, from material selection to production processes, toward scalable, controllable manufacturing with consistent quality. In this area, Italdesign’s expertise in managing complex systems helps ensure alignment between aesthetics, performance and industrial constraints.
The design of human interfaces, which enable interaction between robots and people, is a key focus. This work includes defining the tactile, ergonomic and perceptual properties of interaction areas, integrating the artificial skin developed by Generative Bionics with solutions focused on the user’s physical experience and on acceptance.
The program also includes activities specifically aimed at manufacturing scalability of the exterior design, with the objective of enabling progressively large-scale production. This covers three interconnected workstreams: defining the path from prototype to volume production of the exterior design; identifying the industrial supply chain; and preparing the technical documentation required to ensure quality, safety and consistency across production processes.
Generative Bionics will continue to conceive and develop the entire technological platform of the GENE.01 humanoid robot, from mechanics to electronics, from distributed tactile sensing to Physical AI, together with the design vision and philosophy that define its identity.
The joint teams of Generative Bionics and Italdesign will work together on the industrialisation of the exterior design of the GENE.01 humanoid robot, marking the transition from prototype to industrial pre-series. This program is part of a broader industrialisation plan by Generative Bionics, which will include the announcement in June 2026 of a Chief Production & Industrialisation Officer tasked with leading the manufacturing scalability of the humanoid platform.
“The partnership with Italdesign marks a pivotal step for Generative Bionics: this is not just about designing advanced humanoid robots, but about making them with an exterior design concretely manufacturable and scalable,” said Daniele Pucci, CEO of Generative Bionics. “We have developed a complete technological platform in-house, but the challenge today is to transform this complexity into a reliable, replicable industrial product ready to operate in the real world. In this journey, Italdesign’s expertise is a decisive accelerator.”
“In this project, we have brought – and will continue to bring – our full capability to translate an ambitious and complex vision into a concrete system ready for industrialisation,” said Antonio Casu, CEO of Italdesign. “In particular, we have drawn on our experience with intelligent and autonomous systems, built over years in the automotive world. The partnership with Generative Bionics allows us to apply and extend the knowledge our professionals have developed in proportions, user experience design, and the mediation between technological complexity and the ways people understand and engage with it with confidence, contributing to the development of a platform conceived to collaborate with human beings in a natural and effective way.”
