SenseGlove, a European leader in haptic and force-feedback technology, has announced the launch of SenseGlove R1, an exoskeleton glove designed to enable human-level dexterity and force awareness in humanoid robotic systems.
Developed under the codename Project Rembrandt—a reference to the Dutch master painter—R1 is built to solve one of the core challenges in humanoid robotics: teaching robots how to interact with the physical world using human-like touch, force, and dexterity.
“Humanoid robots will only be useful in the real world when they understand how much force to apply during interactions,” said Gijs den Butter, CEO and co-founder of SenseGlove. “R1 allows humans to demonstrate not just motion, but touch, enabling robots to learn dexterous manipulation through real human force data via tele-operation, while operating in real-world environments and addressing the cross-embodiment challenge at the same time.”
SenseGlove R1 combines active force feedback, high-sensitivity force sensing, and millimeter-accurate finger tracking in a wearable exoskeleton. Operating at a 1,000 Hz control loop, the glove captures both human motion and applied force with high fidelity and translates them directly into robotic control signals, enabling precise force control of dexterous robotic grippers.
This makes R1 particularly suited for direct tele-operation of humanoid robotic hands, imitation learning and data collection for dexterous manipulation, and remote error correction of deployed robots.
Remote operators can feel contact and gripping forces and textures as experienced by the robot, allowing them to instantly adapt their grip. This capability is critical for tasks requiring fine manipulation, such as tool handling, object sorting, or interaction in unstructured environments.
R1 builds on SenseGlove’s eight years of experience working with over 500 organizations in more than 50 countries, and on research originating from Delft University of Technology. The company’s earlier systems have been used in advanced tele-operation, including the Ana Avatar XPrize-winning system developed by the University of Bonn, Siemens’ industrial metaverse, and professional VR training programs adopted by organizations such as NASA and Emirates.
With R1, SenseGlove extends this foundation into the rapidly growing field of humanoid robotics, supporting industrial automation, research, and next-generation robotic platforms. The launch marks SenseGlove’s continued commitment to training the workforce of the future—both human and robotic—and will provide organizations with a precise new instrument for tele-operation, robotic learning, and dexterous manipulation research.
SenseGlove is already shipping the first units this month to customers who pre-ordered R1.
