Surge Hand: Prosthetics

In this demo, AltBionics showcases a novel control method called Symmetric Control. Instead of relying on myoelectric signals or pre-set grip patterns, the user wears a sensorised glove on their intact hand. Each finger movement is mirrored in real time by the bionic hand, providing fully independent control of all digits.

This approach opens new possibilities for intuitive training, rehabilitation, and direct control methods for individuals with unilateral limb differences. It’s an early demonstration of how robotics-focused technology can inform and accelerate innovation in prosthetics.

Brett, a volunteer and friend of Alt-Bionics, helped them trial the Surge robotic hand at the headquarters, marking some of the first official explorations of its use in prosthetic applications.
